Wildfire - from Playdate to Statement Quilt

She started as a sample in a Cut, Sew, Repeat Playdate here.

In all honesty, my main goal was demo pieces and I chose the colours simply as a matter of play. They looked good together. I assembled the quilt top shortly after the Playdate last year. The entire time I viewed the quilt as a vertical piece. That all changed as I was basting it on the dining room floor. I stood up to changed my spot on the quilt as I pinned and pinned and suddenly saw the quilt differently.

Now maybe I was influenced by the news of our lives, the wildfire destroying parts of Jasper, or maybe it was just fresh eyes after months of not really seeing the quilt. Regardless, once my view changed the story of the quilt changed. Now, viewed on the horizontal and with the details of the quilting, it tells the story of forest fires. The forest on the bottom, catching fire, smoke, then a changed sky.

You never know where your creativity will lead you.
